Hi,
I found a workaround in the meantime. The issue was probably due to
CD burning incompatibilities. I burnt the CD's on computer A, and used them
to install computer B. This always worked to the particular point in the
installation where it was remounting the root filesystem. I tried several

The bug is in the Akregato
But there is still keyboard shortcut so you are not unable to switch
layout or forced to log out. Where is the problem then. Do not be just
the mouse user!

The bug regards really Ubuntu 10.04 although the automatically added
details were taken from 8.04, because I wrote this report on machine

I also confirm this bug in Lucid with all updates. The problem is
inside /etc/init.d/ondemand script. (Bug #576022)
At line 19:
... /etc/init.d/ondemand -- background
should be changed to
... /etc/init.d/ondemand background.
Ondemand script waits for 60s after startup and then swithes CPU s
The same problem is still present in Lucid:
On my laptop with fresh installation of Lucid, all updates, the white
square appears with more than 50% probability. On the other hand, on my
dektop, which was upgraded from Interpid to Lucid recently, everything
works fine...

Some background:
5xxx GPUs booted daily lives just fine still after Alpha 1. Afaik, this
bug occured before Alpha 2.
I have 5770 which worked with Alpha 1 and later images. Plymouth worked
and desktop loaded with resolution 800x600 without any boot parameter
tweaking (nomodeset, radeon.modeset=0)
I'm experiencing the very same problem with my Lenovo R61 notebook and
64bit Lucid. (Unfortunatelly with apport-collect I keep getting "No
additional information collected" message with anything being uploaded
so I'll try to describe my configuration and how to reproduce the bug
manually.).

Dave, are you sure the reporter even has Evergreen (5xxx) GPU? Lspci
says it's 4350 and dmesg says the system is requsting RV710_pfp.bin and
RV710_me.bin. Ati dropped R naming with Evergreen series. In my
example (5770) system should be requesting JUNIPER files, see
