What a mess. Decades ago, the X Window System came with a session-
saving protocol which allowed apps to tell the window manager to restore
them later. This served Unix and later Linux pretty good for a very
long time. Then, a couple years ago, the X-server-based protocol was
deemed unacceptable
If nothing is going to be done, then the documentation is wrong (it
still copiously tells the user about the session-management tab, etc.).
So this is a bug, which if not fixed in the code, should be fixed in the
documentation (to make it tell the truth).

seemed like a playback (decoding) bug with totem, since the same files
"work fine" using alac-decoder. So I filed the bug against gstreamer
(totem's decoder). But later it seemed more likely that mono ALAC
files were enc
I sent a message to the author of alac-decoder (David Hammerton at
craz.net) asking if he would comment on this bug. He reverse-
engineered ALAC and likely has the needed expertise.
Incidentally, his latest release of alac-decoder behaves the same as the
older version in Ubuntu.

Library and then doing 'Sync' on the iPOD. The sync operation crashed

Could you clarify what you mean by "mark the text"?
Selecting it in the usual way (left-click and drag) seems to work, the
text is highlighted. But Control-C does nothing as far as I can tell
(subsequent control-V in another application pastes what was selected
previously, not the text from Audac
