"hpet=disable" made no difference.
Also auto-resumes on lid open.

I also found that sequence non-obvious trying to get my bluetooth mouse working
using the GUI.

The solution for using vi is to use the command: sudo update-alternatives
--config editor
This will show the following (in 9.04 at least) from which you can change the
default editor to vim:

Installer Crashed 11.04 Alpha3
The install disk was the DVD version. I booted from the DVD then started the
install from the desktop.
The "Upgrade volume detected" window kept coming up during installation, I kept
dismissing it.
