Could be a duplicate of Bug #534129. On that bug Bryce asked if that
bug would repeat again, and this bug might be that repeat.
2.6.32-16 was updated in between these two bugs.
On this bug Lucid was sitting idle with Firefox up with tabs for AIM

i845 did boot daily build 20091005 CD, a little post karmic beta. It
even installed. Wow. Over three months for a fix but did get fixed.
Video performance is another issue, carried on other launchpad bugs.
It works! Thanks much,

[i845] xorg hang on video driver 2.8.0
https://bugs.
Not an issue with 9.04 or 9.10 because they don't have a "safe graphics"
mode.
I wish they did, since the only way karmic is running on this PC is by
booting in recovery mode and manually entering a xorg.conf to include
Driver "vesa" which then works, in nomodeset of course.
Thanks for looking at
I've been posting bugs on the intel driver for karmic, for example:
Launchpad Bug #420594 [i845] xorg hang video driver 2.8.1-1ubuntu1
Bug #406460 preceded that, and bugzilla Bug 23032, and Bug 20206.

"vesa" is working for me on i845 in IBM ThinkCentre and i830 in IBM
Thinkpad R31. At one point I went back a couple releases getting "vesa"

think, developers would know, and now it is working for me.

is three times slower than 32.2 seconds with driver "vesa".

Karmic A5 CD on my i845 couldn't get by the first boot screen. Nothing
on the keyboard worked. The CD did boot and run on my two ati pc's so
the CD burn was O.K. A5 is the same as daily build 20090902.
Daily build CD 20090905 booted and died on the i845. I usually have to

Update installed 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu1 karmic I think.
Hangs on boot with brown screen and ubuntu logo. Seems to me very
similar to bug #406460 with different artwork.
Will attach dmesg, Xorg.0.log, dpkg -l, .xsession-errors which were
copied from failed image by doing a dual boot.

There's no way to evaluate the performance regression with this package
since it doesn't boot on i845, not even in nomodeset.
