Public bug reported: I was installing LAMP server with tasksel, the progress bar never updated the status of install, so I closed the terminal and restarted Ubuntu then restarted tasksel LAMP install it picked up where it left off and MySQL was installed correctly. This crash is probably due to

[Bug 295536] Re: cups-pdf fails bad status reported and no pdf created

I have spent some time with this bug my solution was to remove cups-pdf, then create a directory ~/PDF. I then reinstalled cups-pdf and was able to print to pdf first time. I didn't have to change permissions on /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf or ~/PDF this time. it just worked. Hope this helps.
