I've a workaround.
Recompiling the actual linux-image package with enabled AMD74XX module works
for me.
Steps are used:
(I write this comment from another machine and my machine is down at this
moment. So some path or command maybe not exact)
apt-get source kernel-image-$(uname-r)
cd linux-2.6

On Gutsy it worked perfectly. It was upgraded to Hardy beta.

On my 1.4GHz AMD Athlon with 1GB of RAM the page above has loaded in

It is similar to Bug #67299 and Bug#73312.
There is some raid array constructed from not partitions but whole disks.
The mdadm package has a component that runs at boot time from initramfs.
(/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/md)
This script scans only partitions but no whole disks as a

You're right. My fix works work in my and the two other reported case.
It is a quick and dirty fix for some special cases.
I have spent ~4-5 hours to catch this bug. (A reboot takes up to 10 minutes on
my box when patch not included) It would have been take less time if the script
would have so

box (it runs amd64).
It's working but complains on debug section (log_begin_msg and log_end_msg not
found)
My RAID is an raid5 level array built from sd[a-d].

2.6.17-10-generic does not find the sata drive, so it cannot mount the root
partition.
2.6.17-10-i386 does find it so the boot is successful.
