The inclusion of a default option under Edit > Preferences for the
additional pane is a very useful feature. Otherwise the additional pane
gets lost and must be reactivated via F3.

This is bug is over three years old. Is someone working on this? Drag
and drop is a basic functionality of every modern desktop. I can't
believe no one has worked on this for three years, when there are even
comments from Mark Shuttleworth about the criticality of this issue.

Same here with ubuntu 15.10. Connection over LAN is achieved and dropped
immediately after. Does not happen with LTS 14.04.
The adapter is a generic USB 3.0 LAN adapter with USB hub 3 ports.
