[Bug 1394304] [NEW] No (useful) error message

Public bug reported: Updating from 14.04 to 14.10 update-manager stopped at 'Setting new software channels' with a message about 'could not calculate the upgrade' asking me to report a bug by doing 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release- upgrader-core' instead of providing *any* information where it failed.
