I get the following messages on an upgrade

I had made a fresh install of kubuntu without formatting my / drive.
Then I got these errors when I ran ntfs-config. Followed the above
procedure (i.e. deleting the particular folders) and then running ntfs-
config. I am running Jaunty.

I completely uninstalled UBUNTU. In place of it i installed
Kubuntu Remix + upgrades. Not a solution but KDE4 looks great...
On top of it you can install Gnome.

based on flacid's report, here is a dirty trick to get the screen work.
create the following file
sudo touch /usr/lib/kde4/bin/preloadkde
#include the following code in the file
#!/bin/bash
sleep 1
chvt 1
sleep 0.005
chvt 7
then change permissions
sudo chmod a+x /usr/lib/kde4/bin/preloadkde
here is another piece of code that you might want to add to your
preloadkde file (see my previous comment).

xrefresh -white
