As a workaround for the problems accessing files on shares mounted under

that item is checked when enabled and so it doesn't induce users to

I can appreciate the usefulness of log files but the VM in question was
ditched long ago - sorry.
But my problem was NOT the final size after the upgrade. It was the
downloading of the "new" packages altogether which brought the system
near to desaster - before the actual upgrade took place. And t
workaround: in terminal type
killall lxpanel; lxpanel --profile Lubuntu &
(helps against the "growing notification area" too...)

The "description" in "technical description" seems to take its value

When (in the "other software" tab) the window is scrolled down all the
way (see attached screenshot) and I activate/deactivate a ppa the UI
suddenly jumps and the affected line is much further down in the window
(see next screenshot). Thus the mouse pointer is now above a diff

The dialog (see attached screenshot) looks exactly like the standard
dialog you get when all updates are finished BUT the button which
"normally" just closes update manager now RESTARTS the system. I concede
that it is correctly labeled but it is misleading and needs at least
