I compiled kernel 2.6.24-rc5 (vanilla) manually about few weeks ago and haven't
had any problems since. What I've noticed after the update is that now I'm
getting all these messages about npviewer.bin (=nspluginwrapper) segfaulting.
And that's something that did not happen using the stock kernel
I also tested with the latest upstream kernel (2.6.34) with same
results.

Well, I just installed the karmic kernel 2.6.31-14 on my lucid
installation, and the mounting still does not work, so I guess that
pretty much overrules the possibility of a kernel bug. Maybe a bug in
HAL? There's an attachment of hal-device output.

It appears that the problem is actually in KDE, since I can manually
access the camera using gphoto2.
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

I can confirm this. ufraw, rawtherapee, rawstudio (all of them use
dcraw?) produce pictures with pink tint on white highlights. There's no
problems with raw files from a 500D.

Ufraw 0.18 still doesn't display 550D raw images correctly. Some of them
are ok, but others have a pink hue on white highlights. Even an updated
dcraw (9.11) doesn't help.
