If you did too - the package you assigned the bug to may be wrong as the
canon ppd-file are proprietary, and that the ccpd-daemon is the cause of
this error, not hal-cups-utils
I have install cli with xubuntu 8.04. Same "error".
I ran
$ sudo updatedb
and locate works. I have rebooted several times. I guess I have some
daemons to install :)

Just did an update - and the computer won't boot with the new kernel-
update. When I try to start in recovery mode, it halts at:

I had to choose the 2.16.24-15 kernel in GRUB to boot

The update ( as noted here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24/+bug/215833 ) fixed the boot-problem, but
created a new one! The Hardware Drivers /Jockey does not work anymore. I
am not able to set correct resolution on my screen, nor set the nvidia
driver.

The update does not work for me!
Hardware manager still crashes, no nvidia driver active - and the correct
screenresolution is not in the "new" set-screenres-thingy. I will have to
change this the hard way I guess...

My gnome-panel is not responsing - it has "locked" itself. The strange thing is
that I was able to press the the network manager, and log onto my vpn. But, the
menu and everything else is not responsing.
Alt-F2 is not w
Upon restart, it is up again - however, when press the Quit-button, the
panel lockes itself for about 1 min before the "Logout option-dialog" is
shown.

Still the case on 8.04 beta.

I can confirm that # 27 partially ( literally ) solved things for me. At
least every second time I open the lid... the resolution of my external
screen is wrong half of the time together with the laptop lid being on
even when closed.
On a Dell E6400
