This is something that is more relevant with legacy cards, but yes, I
agree there needs to be a clear, defined way to adjust resolution in
both the boot process and when the GUI (X) starts, before any drivers

FWIW the last few posts confirm this could cause loss of work via
unintended or unwanted action on a part of Ubuntu, yet it's been demoted
in priority. This isn't a cosmetic or "fluff" issue, it relates to a
fundamental concept that is flawed; intentionally protecting something
by marking "pinned"

Yes, on systems with swecurity concerns or limited bandwidty, the
ability to disasble any uncommanded actions needs to be available.
Especially those that acces the Internet.

Wait - how do you know THEY modified the file??? At least have teh OP
validate their actions before invalidating this.
I just had my 10.04 update from Linux 2.6.32.32 to 2.6.38.10 - a pretty
major jump. I have never seen thins increment in updates. It was made
available in the normal Update mana
In my Lucid system I never encountered this and there is also no
"~/.config/user-dirs.dirs" in this Lucid install in ROOT.
I would have presumed that if I had modified the file as above, that even a new
release would then be correctly configured.
Also, I have not done a completely new Karmic inst

An old Gateway laptop (W730-K8X) with the Broadcomm with b43-fwcutter
and ndiswrapper installed. it's a BCM4318 variant.
This is a fresh, updated Lucid install.
The wireless connection is "hidden" and originally I could not get a
connection at all, unless I entered "sudo modprobe b43" at each boo
This needs to be also nominated for Lucid, and one would think that
after 3 years it would have been assigned to someone... :)
