Binary package hint: kdesudo
kdebase-runtime was broken after I switched to Gnome, and none of the
suggestions I could gather would fix it. It said that this package was
also in kdesudo, and complete removal of this didn't sound too scary, so
I tried it. This, too, failed.

My power supply died, so I put my hard drives into another box. This was
the only change to my system (OS and peripherals all untouched), and I
am experiencing this bug only since. Quite perplexing, as well as
galling, to suddenly have to crawl under my desk every time I want to
start my computer.

Ran into the same problem after updating a fresh install of Kubuntu 13.10 (64).
Using the workaround and linking libwayland worked fine for me.
So ...
