I did the latest updates in the update manager. How would I go about
insuring that I have the appropriate Linux-ubuntu-modules other than
that? The way I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy was to use the method here

How do I install/switch?
As I said before, It was all working perfectly in Gutsy then I did:
# sudo update-manager -c -d
and it did all the installing for me. Should I have done something
different? What is the difference between the 386 and generic? I'm
using a Tyan tiger MP S2460 Dual AMD 1
I went into Synaptic and saw that all of the Generic variants were
already installed, but there was one -386 one that was also installed, I
clicked to uninstall it, and now it is able to see my card!

I am using an Nvidia 5500 and I can play HD in vlc with no problems but
from myth, I just get a black screen and then I have to xkill it to get
out of it. Also I can play low def through mythtv. And It was working
completely perfect in 7.10.
