The above post helped me to set backlight dimmer on my Asus EEEPC 1101HA,
running ubuntu 12.04.
But the commands have to be changed somewhat to actually change the file
/sys/class/backlight/psb-bl/brightness
2) chmod 666 /sys/class/backlight/psb-bl/brightness
to give yourself permission to read/
I purged cinnamon (including Nemo), and that seems to have fixed the
problem.

I can now confirm this bug landed on the LTS HWE kernel.
Honestly, I get Ubuntu for free (well I support them but by no means
this is comparable to certain other license schemes out there) but I
have never been so disappointed. All my systems are now at risk. I don't
know who does QA at Canonical
I can consistently reproduce this issue doing a heavy mail export job in
a VirtualBox guest I use for work.
Just having done first run after applying the deb files provided per
comment 52, I was not able to reproduce the issue. Thank you @chihchun !

The main issue is not that this bug exists and that it is not the fault
of Canonical. The issue is that the 16.04 stable HWE LTS stack rolled to
4.10 despite this bug being known and being critical, with 16.04.3 not
even released yet.

I've got a UX501-VW skylake laptop with a slightly different sd card
reader (1aea:6621). I've tried to recompile the driver from Oleksij with
the new PCI id, but it will not insert.
It complains about the irq being available because it's already in use
by idma64.1:

The simplest fix is to replace the "continue" in the recode error
handlers with "exit(1)" (Patched html2text.C lines 595 and 555). (Using
a different value for encoding errors might be useful)
This makes the error handling consistent with other cases, like failing
to open a file. (See line 482)

I can confirm this bug on mx4 with OTA-13.
To get hotspot, first toggle in system settings needs to be flipped on and then
the toggle in the status menu needs to be toggled on. Only then does the
hotspot work and the hotspot icon appear in the status bar.

My iMac is also affected. It's a G5 (PPC970FX) 1.6GHz, 768MB RAM.
I installed Lubuntu 16.04 yesterday (May 30th), problem occurs since then,
still happening after apt-get upgrade.
