gxlgears may well not be a good benchmark, but the performance HAS
dropped significantly. Just compare 9.10 to 8.10, they are lightyears
apart in responsiveness. I'm going to run the prescribed Phoronix
benchmarks and report back here - it is unacceptable for this kind of
performance issue to go ig

I think I'm starting to figure this package thing out a little. I've
created a debdiff for the fix. I also have an updated

both are needed to address the fix, so I'll attach both.

After updating Ubuntu from Jaunty to Karmic the font-rendering in
Firefox 3.5.3 is very ugly. The fonts are very "thin", not like before
the update.
The problem I get only after an update. By a new installation in a VM
this won't happend.
The fix mentioned by Y W Sing works for me too. Comment out the part
with the es, and the ~/.fonts.conf rules get applied immediately.

I've found a Workaround for this problem. Just rename the hidden file
.font.config (may .font.config.bak) in your home folder. reloggin to
Ubuntu and start Firefox again.
With this the problem is solved for me. But why is it not active after a
update? I attached the font.config for analysing

WORKED 100%!!! Thank you so much!
Now if I could just get the NVIDIA 185 driver to work. Right now if I
enable it I get a black screen right after GRUB and can only access tty.
Can you help with that issue?
