In Ubuntu 6.06 on G3 iBook ("dual USB" version, I believe), NTP syncs
correctly. However, Universal time is taken as local time and local
time is shifted accordingly.

I think I may have fixed the problem. I think it may have been related
to the persistent "Unable to access hardware clock" message I've been
getting on login.
After a bit of reading online, I traced that problem to the nonexistence
