I am experiencing this problem with a Hardy Heron Beta install as well.
Esp. while playing a 3D MMORPG (regnum online) the keyboard locks up
after a few minutes running this game (reproducibly on two systems, one
a new install another a upgrade).
Symptom is always, that one key stays pressed. The
New information, a bit:
- removing all SCIM packages eases the problem, keyboard hangs not after a few
minutes, but after half an hour
- using openbox/fluxbox seems to remove the problem at all, even when using gdm
and running gtk apps (firefox and gajim)

The xserver-xorg-core deb fixed my problem. Can't reproduce this bug
even after hours.

FYI, exactly the same this error appeared for me because of failing
hardware! Linux just recognized it earlier than Windows XP. In my case
it was an USB CF card reader which was operational in just 25% of the
time after upgrading from Edgy to Feisty. But after a while Windows XP
