Just upgraded from Karmic to Lucid (distupgrade), with all the latest
patches and packages.
I can report that I've experienced the same issue as in post #78, with
the same output.
The advice in post #11 was to reduce the number of entries in /etc/hosts
and this worked for me.
Unfortunately this
Re #79:
But if you want a work around, then:
1. Rename the large /etc/hosts file with all the adblock entries to something
like /etc/hosts.normal
2. Make a small /etc/hosts file with only localhost and so on in it. I called
mine /etc/hosts.minimal
3. Launch gwibber from a script that copies the
Hi Brian.
Apparently the script I put in was cut off.
There are no race conditions here.
You can also turn your sarcasm off, thanks.
See the attached script (which hopefully makes it through this time)

No, the script is not optimal, Thorsten, but to address your points:
1. You can modify it for other apps
2. Once any app that uses this script to launch, because said app depends on
desktopcouch, then all other apps that also depends on desktopcouch can just be
started directly, because the link
No problem. So which of the problems in this thread is breaking gwibber
for you?
Can you post the console output if you start gwibber from a terminal, so
that someone can help figure it out?

Thanks, Chad.
This suggestion might work in some configurations. Unfortunately it
won't work in mine.
I should point out that other software can handle large hosts files
without issues. One example is squid, which loads the entire hosts file
on startup.
Why any software should want to do this is
lucid-proposed/universe python-wxtools 2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1.2 works fine
with lucid/universe editra 0.5.30-1
The two packages do not conflict, so the proposed python-wxtools package
does work.
I only tested a few of the tools installed, and they all worked.

The current packages in proposed also do not work:
1. Installing editra first:
package lucid-proposed/universe editra 0.5.30-1ubuntu0.1 installs with no issues
But then:
Unpacking python-wxtools (from .../python-wxtools_2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1.1_all.deb)

By no means a systemd expert, but if this is failing due to lack of
internet connectivity I would suggest making a copy of the service unit,
i.e.
sudo cp /lib/systemd/system/snapd.refresh.service /etc/systemd/system
and modifying the Unit definition by replacing

I respect the fact this is a design decision and I assume it's based on
user feedback.
That said, I don't really understand that rationale. I mean, it's
literally a power symbol crossed with a cog, which reflects the
semantics of the menu: two significant components are a UI path to
system setting
I have the same issue. I have used multiple usb sticks with usb-creator
and unetbootin. This is on a Dell CS24-SC Server.

Actually, I believe unity is responsible for the lockscreen for 14.04.
It was previously the responsibility of gnome-screensaver.

As far as I can see the lockscreen is the responsibility of the 'unity'
package as of 14.04.
Not sure what the etiquette of changing this is, but I'm not sure it
makes sense to make a new report.

Some additional information:
The lockscreen does respect other settings in in the
"org.gnome.desktop.background" gsettings schema, namely the primary-
color key. The default is a nice bright blue and really accentuates the
primarily black/dark, zoomed background images ;)
My workaround:

Unless I'm mistaken, `icedax` is only enforced as a dependency if
`cdparanoia` is not met, and it's not a suggest package. The linked
patch silently fails to get the CD-Text if these are not present. It's
perfectly possible to have `abcde` installed and be completely unaware
of this feature.

I clearly didn't proofread that properly.
"suggest" -> "suggested" and "these are not present" refers to either
`cdda2wav` or `icedax` which this feature depends on.
