I am not sure if this will help, here is the grub.cfg from a working HP
laptop. I have run all the updates that are available and the laptop is
still running. I add for all, the laptop has nothing on it except
Ubuntu, no windows at all:

I just noticed in my post, the cut-n-paste messed up the comments
section at the bottom. Please make sure if you are going to use the
file that your bottom section has the hash/pound sign in the beginning
