I have also been unable to install Ubuntu on my Compaq/HP Presario V5000
because of the same problem. I'm eager to leave Window's behind!

I have been unable to install Ubuntu (dapper or edgy) on my hp/compaq
presario V5000
It begins the install and then hangs up with a screen which reads:

Allright, fair enough.. I've submitted it as a new bug, #73687 To my
mind it seems like a somewhat related issue, so i'm posting this follow-
up here in the hopes that someone saavy with #56376 might provide some
input on my situation.
