I have no such problem. I used vanilla linux-2.6.25.2.tar.bz2 tarball, copied
/boot/config-2.6.24-16-generic to .config, made make oldconfig (just pressed
Enter on all the questions), then built it - and here it is!

Tried all this stuff on latest Ubuntu 10.10 and Elitebook 6930p. Most of
these problems went away already. Here is what still doesn't work for me

1. Hardware mute button actually mutes/unmutes internal speakers though
sound mixer applet is not updated properly. Though when muting/unmuti

Laptop is still suspended if lid is closed but it seems like being an
unrelated bug with gnome-power-manager behavior (it assumes lid close is
an explicit user suspend request like clicking Suspend in session menu.
