PulseAudio seems to lock Alsa and OSS for it's own purpose.

After a week there was only one workspace an no cube. I liked to
reactivate the cube but it can't be reactivated every time I activate or
disactivate the cube effect theres only 1 worksapce, AND if I want to
have 4 workspaces without a cube there is only 1 workspace with a panel,

found a workaround
if you open appeareance config, and choose to activate 3d effects it will
search drivers again, strangly it does find them now.
I've aborted the install and now jockey knows my drivers too.

As all other applets seem to work I'd say it's not a duplicate.
But as gnome-panel is a gnome project it is an upstream one.
Did you already try to submit it to Bugzilla - would you do it ?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug AG, it might be helpful
if you open System Monitor and take a look whether CPU / RAM usage is
very high - to see whether this affects the whole system and whether
it's onyl caused by gnomemetris
