Had the same issue - fixed it today by installing the libmtp 1.1.17
packages from the ubuntu-focal repositories. Seems to work OK now.

The updated kernel doesn't fix the issue for me. I still need to have 3
or 4 usb sticks connected to the computer so it can boot correctly and
not get stuck on a blank screen. Probably still an entropy issue.
