I am experiencing the same problem with Feisty and an Audigy 2 ZS
Platinum Card. I have not attempted modifications to asound.conf .
Below are outputs from various commands.

After several restarts, but no other changes or modifications, sound has
returned to my box. Updating provided nothing relevant other than
restricted modules, though perhaps that changed something. Thanks for
any help or inquiries.

Again with no sound after restart. No apparent change, few (if any)
updates having anything to do with sound/alsa. Sound DID work upon
original install from Feisty Herd 4 CD.
