I have added following line to my /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf:
options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
After reboot and some testing I saw an improvement: drops did not cause
"loss" of my network, and reconnects happened mostly in the same second.
However at some moments there were just too many drops:

I cannot adjust WiFi network parameters to see whether this would affect
the reproducibility of the bug. However here are more details about
network's parameters:

Previously axel was displaying a progress indicator. Now it prints out a
new "indicating" line 10 times per second, resulting in ton of output in
the console like that:

This bug affects me as well. I can add to the discussion that when
compiz freezes and I kill it via ssh then ibus-daemon and ibus-ui-gtk3
processes start consuming 100% CPU and I have to kill them as well.

Also I have noticed that pressing Alt or Meta key effectively unfreezes
compiz.
I'm using the latest ubuntu 14.04.1 and Compiz 0.9.11.2 and unity 7.2.2.

/home/.ecryptfs and it takes ages for updatedb to scan it. However
ecryptfs is already added to PRUNEFS so it's safe to exclude
/home/.ecryptfs also.
