run a command before initiating a POP connection. In this case, I want
to run an ssh tunnel command to port-forward POP locally to the remote

When I did an upgrade from 06.06 to 06.10, I got the following bad
behaviour - a popup came up (screen shot attached) complaining about

Aha. Ok, I see the problem (aside from "I read the man page, rather than
hunting through /usr/share/doc ;-)
When I upgraded from dapper to edgy, my ethernet interfaces went from
eth1/eth2 to eth0/eth1. (I didn't have an eth0 under dapper, for various
reasons related to a motherboard swap).

I'm not sure exactly what it was, but eventually pretty much all of the
innards of the laptop got switched out (mmm warranty) and that made it
better. I'd guess that there was something a bit marginal in the
hardware, and some kernel change just pushed it over the edge. No idea
what or how.

Please reverse this change before edgy final. It's caused massive
breakage for me - for instance, the intel compiler was utterly broken.
It relied on 'export -n' and 'exec -a' working. I'm almost tempted to
remove dash with dpkg -r and live with the apt-get complaints.

Nice work! The one time I ran it today after the new apt package, it
didn't lock up - but it wasn't something that happened every time, so

I see the same behaviour. I don't get 10, but if I log out with 1
running and log back in, I get 2. If I don't kill the duplicate and

I have the same problem. it's not /tmp for me either, that looks fine.
On login, the gdm window goes away, then the X server appears to crash
or exit, then comes back to the login window. I tried switching to kdm,
behaves the same way.
One oddity that might be related is that it's running on the
Nuking xserver-xgl from orbit fixes the problem for me.

In theory, touching the file .config/xserver-xgl/disable will do the
same thing.
It would be nice if whatever it was trying to run with xgl detected it
crashing and disabled it on next boot. This is a particularly bad
because you get very little useful feedback.

The driver in feisty is still broken. I grabbed the latest anongit of
xf86-driver-ati and built it, it seems to be working fine. This is after
the xorg randr stuff landed.

The problem is that the binary blob fglrx_drv.so has the X server
version encoded in it, and the last version that supported the R200 &c
only supports up to 7.1. Feisty has 7.2. You can (with a bit of messing
about) build the kernel driver, but that won't help you, as the X server
won't load the 7.
Same problem here. The UUID in fstab didn't match the one in
/dev/disk/by-uuid/. This started after a sleep/wake cycle. Had to fix it by
hand by editing fstab to use the correct value from /dev/disk/by-uuid. swapon
-a was reporting:
% sudo swapon -a
swapon: cannot stat /dev/disk/by-uuid/15ed6769
Simple workaround I've been using when I hit this:

You don't need to wait for the next release. If you just build the
current one from the source tarball from the gstreamer website, ladspa
gets built. No idea why it's not built as part of the existing shipping
packages...

it, then copied libgstladspa.so into /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/ - it seems
to work fine.
I don't know if it's possible to issue a fixed version of the edgy
packages with this plugin, but it should at least be fixed for feisty.
