actually be the same problem. I have almost the exact same problems
except mine only occur when my nvidia driver is enabled. I noticed you

No dice. I think bug #652731 might still be related, but updating the
nvidia drivers and reinstalling gnome and nautilus and using the rc
kernel have not proven to be persistent. Their is clearly a permissions
on configuration error somewhere, but i can't figure it out.

200 series nvidia GPU's with core i-7 processors. Please mark this as a

I have this bug too. I have seen multiple related problems with Core i-7
processors on x-58 MoBos with newer Nvidia cards, posted in other bugs
and forums. Sune Bredahl already mentioned his, but also these forum

Also, I just tried restarting gnome settings daemon and it gave the same
error, but did not change anything on reboot. I tried running it with
sudo, and my desktop theme changed instantly, so maybe try sudo instead
of rebooting if rebooting doesn't work for you.
