launching the live cd in the safe graphics mode seeminly works...this is
on a 2d card machine so maybe the normal mode is defaulting to 3d?

Hi
Currently using 7.04, decided to try out 7.10 on a none production
machine. Update doesn't work for me due to some problems documented
elsewhere, so I downloaded the Tribe 4 iso from Ubuntu.
It seemingly loads fine in LiveCD mode until you get to the splash
screen. "ubunt
I had same issue between 7.04 and 7.10, resolved by using the iso
instead.
I also had used Automatix2 in the past..seems to be a recurring theme in
these problems. Then again for a lot of people it is the first program
they install so it could just be a coincidence.

I installed in safe graghics mode and it was fine. It would seem the
LiveCD isn't falling back onto metacity on my SiS graphics card
(laptop). So obviously there is a simple workaround of loading in safe
graphics mode, but still this isn't obvious. Maybe the splash screen
could provide a little mor
