I registered just to say that I have been seriously affected by this
bug, and it certainly deserves more than the "medium" designation.
Single core, ~1GHz processor, would deadlock consistently on rm -rf'ing

I want to apologize for my last comment. I really like having a free
operating system and all the free software, and I love the people who
volunteer their time putting it all together and making it work as well
as it does (thank you!). I was in a bit of a mood after messing with

to where the argument for crashkernel is just "crashkernel=128M" seems
to fix the reservation problem.

Binary package hint: alien
I am using alien version 8.73 on Ubuntu Jaunty. A particular RPM I was
trying to convert had some non-root suid/sgid binaries - these
permissions were not being preserved in the alien-produced .deb package.

Hi Dmitrijs - The only example I have is a piece of commercial software,
IBM WebSphere MQ 7.0.1. The RPM I was trying to work on was
MQSeriesServer-7.0.1-0.i386.rpm. It is far from a simple testcase
however.
I think you can download a copy from

Upstream bug was closed as 'fixed' on 2011-02-15. I've not been able to
test it yet, but a quick glance at the source repository makes me think
it was fixed in commit 40d3357adca13c532a706e86496f8d3410722484 .

This problem appears to be related to a section of code where each file
to be exported is handled in a separate worker thread. From what I can
tell, when the worker thread does something that causes the warning
dialog box to pop up (overwriting an existing file for example), this
causes the crash.

Just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.4. It appears I can't install the
