I ran into exactly the same problem with the Canon Scanner FB630P in
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala and xsane 0.996. Appreciate if somebody can
come up with a fix.
As I need to scan for a number of reasons, does anyone know of a scanner
that works properly with Ubuntu?

canoscan FB330P starts scan,
It is happening in my Ubuntu 16.04 too. I notice the problem after
installing Cairo-Dock, but I am not sure it is related.

I tried to use both kernels in my Latitude 5440:
linux-image-6.8.0-51-generic
linux-image-6.11.0-1010-oem
