I have something similar going on (does not affect my keyboard) on
Kubuntu; I have no idea if it is related.
After a while the kick off menu stops loading programs I try to start
etc. I realised I had several (many, many) scim-panel-gtk processes
running consuming roughly 1 Gb RAM altogether. I ki

recovery disk may impact boot order. Same for mixed SATA and IDE
environments like I have - the SATA disk is boot (correct), but the IDE
disks show up first in gNewSense (essentially Hardy Heron with all
non-free bits removed, in case you aren't familiar with it) and all
Ubuntu versions

on my side.

be populating /dev/mapper for me on my SI 3112 fakeraid adapter. If I
boot with break=mount (or wait until I'm dumped into a busybox shell), I
can see that dmraid is picking up my raid set with dmraid -tay, but
dmraid -ay does n

I found out what *my* problem was. I am trying to boot from this raidset, and
the script that runs dmraid -ay to activate the raidset was in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/dmraid.
I needed to copy this into local-premount and regenerate my initrd. After that
my machine would boot w
After a bit more investigation it turned out to be more related to the
order things were started on my system. Renaming the dmraid script to
zdmraid (so it's last in the sort order) seems to have helped on my
system.
If I did break=mount I could manually run dmraid -ay, and everything

although it seems to take longer. Firefox does not use much RAM, only

I noticed the same problem in Mozilla Thunderbird. It seems to be
independent of Firefox. After running Thunderbird for a long time typing
gets slow and loads the CPU heavily. As with Firefox, restarting
Thunderbird helps.

Ok, that makes sense. There are several entries around 3-4 seconds in
dmesg, so it probably exceeds 5 seconds occasionally. I have a script at
/etc/pm/sleep.d/11vgadetect that detects and enables an external screen
on resume. Perhaps that is the culprit.
