For those waiting, compiling from source and building a package with
checkinstall works great:
wget ftp://ftp.ruby-lang.org/pub/ruby/1.9/ruby-1.9.1-p0.tar.gz
tar xvfz ruby-1.9.1-p0.tar.gz
cd ruby-1.9.1-p0
./configure
sudo checkinstall
Note: the package that is built provides the Ruby 1.9.1 interp
Can someone post built packages containing that debdiff? I don't
understand why this is still around in Jaunty. As mentioned on the
upstream bug report, Jaunty contains the proper version of mjpegtools;
all that has to happen is for the gstreamer-plugins-bad package to be
rebuilt to include it.

The package in your PPA fixed the problem for me! Any chance of getting
this into backports at least? It's a rather annoying bug that seems to
affect a lot of people (google for it).

I agree. I am by no means educated about the issue, but from an end-user
standpoint, the results with mipmaps turned on seem to be smoother and
clearer than with the setting off.

Or you can just set the screensaver to "blank-only" using the command
line. This is what I have done (allows you still to use the screen lock,
if that's important to you):
