I'm having exactly the same problem in Gentoo amd64.
Actually I'm using mem=4000M, the laptop is not rebooting and 'free' reports:

This problem in my laptop is caused by a motherboard incompatibility with the
processor. I believe a BIOS update could fix it, but a guy with the same laptop
