Ah! I had the exact same problem. If you boot your system without quiet
and splash you can see that it's trying to change the permissions but
says unknown group vboxusers. I cannot understand why though.
If you instead of changing that file (or in addition to) add a rules
file called 10-local.rule

This morning I got a crash on pycentral. Apport popped up but told me

need /var/log/dmesg also just say.
I still have the problem in 2.6.24-8 but my wlan actually connected OK.
But it has been very intermittent so I wouldn't say it's OK just yet.

I got the same problem but I cannot get a strace of it. When I enter the
website that crashes FF and click a link I see that my CPU goes up to

In this mode, does the Internet connection work? Seems strange
(impossible) that it does without a default gateway.
I'm not familiar with UPnP but maybe that's what you're using?

Also, is this an issue if you add a new user and log into that users
account? In that case, look for differences in your login-scripts
(.bashrc etc.).

If you don't use UPnP you need to have a gateway. I'm not saying you
need to set it statically but you need to get one from your DHCP-server.

It seems you have done manual configuration. Enable roaming mode so that
NetworkManager configures your interface. When you have done that, you
can get network information by right-clicking the network-manager applet
which appears besides the clock.
I don't think you have discovered any bug

I have fully updated Hardy as of today but the problem is still there.
To "fix it", I have to stop X (/etc/init.d/gdm stop) and then kill -15
-1 as my user and then re-start X again.

I did this to remedy this problem:
1) Stopped cupsys
2) Removed /var/cache/cups and re-created it
3) Started cupsys
4) Removed the printer that existed
5) Reinstalled it
6) Printed a test-page, it worked!
I can still reproduce one problem though, always when I via the web-gui
stop a printer, cups

When I deleted the package libpam-smbpass there were no more crashes in
cups web-gui. I'm changing the bug to Invalid but at least now other
people with the same problem can find an explanation
