As far as the videolan team tells there is a libdvdnav 4.9.9 -- but
since there own compile process pulls in libdvdnav 4.2.1
(https://wiki.videolan.org/UnixCompile/) there are two possibilities:
the process how to compile vlc yourself is not described correctly, or
there is no libdvdnav 4.2.1 avail

are stored. Changing them again does store them ONLY if you create an
additional desktop icon. Deleting this icon WILL in all cases make xfce4
loose all icon positions again!

Still not solved. Reports for vlc as available in the ubuntu
repositories "This is not a genuine Ubuntu package" and tells me to
remove all none Ubuntu packages. SInce there is no way to find out from
where a package originates this is more than only missleading especially
if the package the error
This is still a big bad problem with trusty. In some cases ubuntu-bug reports a
package as not being a genuie Ubuntu package, but the package *IS* a genuie
Ubuntu package! It is available within the Ubuntu repositories and it is, as
far as I can confirm, up to date.

Had the chance to test on a system not providing 640x480 any more. Only
800x600 and higher are available. Such a system is unusable: even
without any vga setting grub is shown, but later, after switching back
to 640x480 nothing is drawn any more on screen!

#12: yes this is true, but does not explain why this leads to "blank
console" using the ubuntu supplied kernel and not using one self
compiled from plain vanilla sources. I've tested since: 3.12.8,
3.13.0-rc8 and 3.13. All show the same result: working console at
expected 800x600.

With this kernel-option I'll get a console prompt, but various kernel
log lines are never prinited on screen.
Printing stops at about "[ 54.811735] [drm] DMA map mode: Using
physical TTM page addresses." and then starts again after a screen size
change at about "[ 57.317174] intel_rapl: domain
Since today a new version of open-vm-tools is available. I've tested
again with this new version. Some of the errors seen with the old
version are gone now.

Uploading photos to Facebook crashes digicam reliable. Logging in works,
then clicking on "Send" to upload selected photos crashes digicam.
Always.
This bug was there with digicam 3.0.x gone for a long time, now it is
there again with digicam 3.5.0.
