This was one of the things I tried. Without success. Same as before.
Btw.: the kernel prints a message vga= being deprecated and ignored thus
I suppose it not doing any harm any more.
I've tested now additionally:
Debian testing and unstable. Both have the very same problem. Only one
difference:
Virtualisation: VMware, VirtualBox. Both show the same behaviour.
Real Hardware:
- nVidia (one of the build in cards) with the drivers you've get with Ubuntu.
- an realy old amd.
But I'd suppose it to work mainly with VMware and VirtualBox, because we
use it heavily with about 200 virtual machines
I could make Ubuntu 12.10, 13.04, 13.10 and even 14.04 (same goes for
debian, Fedora and friends) to honour both: "vga=XXX" and gfxmode, by
switching to a plain vanilla kernel compiled from scratch, enabling
mostly everything as modules. Maybe someone kicked out some "deprecated"
code, but did not
> You should only be setting the GRUB_GFXMODE, not the vga=. Does it
work when you do that?
setting only GRUB_GFXMODE and GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD to the very same value does not
work at all: Grub switches to 800x600, but the kernel will only use 640x480. I
*have* to set "vga=" too! Maybe this is because
Public bug reported:
After upgrading to the latest available packages for Ubuntu 15.10 sshd
will not start any more. The system aquires an address, but it does not
start sshd.
Result: no remote access. On servers this might be fatal, since it might
be a headless one and without sshd running acces
PS: the bug is reported from a 14.04 system, for a 15.10 system. At the
moment of writing, the 15.10 system is not accessible any more, because
of sshd not running (or no open port for sshd. May be even a firewall
problem).
Seen it on:
- 15.04 -- current, stable
- 15.10 -- upcomming

The problem is related to ignoring "noauto" in fstab. The system tries
to mount a nonexisting fd using ufs and fails.

May be. But I found this bug already filed at xfce bugzilla -- but not
on lauchpad. And: how should anyone at Ubuntu know about this bug if not
filed to lauchpad?

As for my analysis of this bug: it can't be gone at all, because there
is a chance the data read to position the icons is read slower than the
icons are positioned by default. There is no guaranty this could not
happen looking at the code written. The bug isn't fixed at all!

This bug is not fixed at all. There is a good chance reading icon positions
from $HOME/.config/xfce4/desktop.conf is not finished before reading icons from
$HOME/Desktop having icons rearrange. There is no locking nothing to make sure
the icon positions are known BEFORE starting to read "Desktop

I've set sasl-auth for my servers to make use of sso. As found there are
incompatible changes to the sasl-part as found in libvirt and qemu,
making it impossible for virt-viewer to connect to vnc-sessions build up
by libvirtd. Same applies for virt-manager.
Since it works with libvirtd, kvm-qemu o
