Ubuntu keeps to many old kernel-images and initrd within /boot. Space is
exausted and it fails to delete old unused kernels before creating a new
initrd failing building an initrd for the newly installed kernel.
A workaround is to delete all old unused kernels and then try it again.

to be pulled in -- you will have to install this later on noticing sssd
doesn't need systemv-start any more.

Install went fine, but rebooting at the end gave the same result: short

The file "/etc/ldap.conf" was backed up to "/var/backups/", while
"/etc/ldap/ldap.conf" was not. Both files are overwritten by upgrading
via "do-release-upgrade -d" while a normal upgrade doesn't overwrite
them.
The file "/etc/ldap.conf" was replaced by default values, but some
values were patched
It does not, as far as I could test, matter if you select debconf to be
responsible for these files or not. They are replaced regardless.

Upgraded an other system today. Now waiting for ModemManager to shut
down. As stated: at the time beeing I am waiting now 30 Minutes(!!!) for
ModemManager to finish. Waiting on ...
After about 35 Minutes ModemManager shut down and the system rebooted.
