Thanks, I'm already in that IRC channel and also posted the upstream bug
after an IRC user said it was also present in Fedora 14.
Anyway I think the logging is a dead end, since there is no log activity
between the time where the buffer underruns until pa_simple_drain()
completes and the next tone

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: totem
System: Ubuntu Maverick 64-bit
In the normal view, Totem shows the buttons in the following order:
Previous, Play, Next
In fullscreen, however, Totem shows the following:
Play, Previous, Next
For comparison, Rhythmbox shows:
Play, Previous, Next
I can confirm this problem.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Play a video (format doesn't matter)
2) Drag a *.wmv-file from nautilus and drop it onto the area where the other
video is shown
Expected result:
Totem should play the file you just dropped
Actual result:
Totem plays the sound from the new file
I can confirm this, and have linked an upstream bug report.

However certain games and apps can't play sound now. And if I start
pulseaudio manually I get that error message on the console where
pulseaudio is
This was reported over a year ago and concerns a core feature. It's an
annoying, stupid little bug that degrades the overall Ubuntu experience
for beginners as well as seasoned users.
Why is this still left as "undecided" importance? I think it needs to be
accelerated by now. And fixed - yesterday

This really needs to be fixed in Lucid as it doesn't work when
installing the standard versions of git-core and guilt. Breakage from
the outset. only way to get guilt is to compile it from source.
