I can confirm that the problem also goes away if all the desktop effects
are removed, i.e. set to none. I only had normal enabled before on my
945GME, and observed the problem, so must be something with that
setting.

and it worked. groupadd and useradd were working again.
In My Docker context I added the deb file from the link, and in the Dockerfile

I cannot tar /proc/acpi either.
I presume this is because it's created only when ACPI is on and working.
I have tried disabling devices on my motherboard (Asus P8P67-M) in the
hope it may have been a device issue, but cannot seem to narrow it down
with that either.

Hi Michael,
I had this bug when I installed Skype directly from their website and
ran the deb file. When I ran the .deb file, the Ubuntu Software Centre
would open, I'd hit install and the Software Centre would crash.
However! Skype did install, but I could not update or install anything

I only had Google Chrome - Latest Stable open and I attempted to open
the chat window (not the contacts menu) from the applications menu on
the Ubuntu 12.04 beta.
If it helps, I am also getting quite a bit of graphical lag accompanying
the crash when it happens to the extent that other apps freeze
On Xenial, it happens to me every time I close the chat window (not the
contact window).

Not everybody uses Amazon as their local web store and I think that is
only fair that users get a choice over their selection of web store!
