Fn+Up/fn+Down will trigger the BIOS to change the brightness, but it
locks up X to all keyboard input and some mouse events.

After upgrading my image to 2.6.27-7-generic I am no longer experiencing
the lock-up issues. As I type at this moment I have gone through the
whole brightness range (FnUp/Down) and am still able to
