I'm also experiencing this issue. It does seem to be the same as bug
#443004 since it is affects many of the buttons within eclipse and I
also can confirm it is JDK independent.

The visualvm package has a dependency that is described as follows:
"openjdk-6-jdk | java6-sdk"
Of these two packages only openjdk-6-jdk actually exists, the other
package does not exist with Ubuntu or the Ubuntu Partners repository.
