I can confirm that on the intrepid with the latest updates, this problem

I am getting the same errors as reh4c on ubuntu x86_64 /Intrepid. If it
helps, the error didnot appear after installing from livecd. However,
after upgrading to latest packages, the error started appearing.

when running the backtrace found that the problem is from libcairo.so.2
- but there was no libcairo with debug symbols available(dbgsym library.

I tried all sorts of things - cleaned up /usr/lib/firefox,
/usr/share/firefox, and removed ~/.mozilla and the reinstalled and it
still occurs. I saw a similar bug(in centOS) where in the actual bug was
in freetype shared lib, which was causing ff 1.5 to crash - not sure if
it would be of any help
This is occuring for me also. and James Sadler is very correct - this is
quite a recent problem - last 3-4 days.

Please goto System->Preferences->Sound
In there, in Devices tab (the first tab), select the tracks and device
which you want to control with the keyboard keys. In your case, ensure
that PCM track is selected.
This should solve your problem.

I can also confirm this behaviour - once I disabled xrandr plugin for
gnome_settings_daemon, freenx session started rendering properly (with
appropriate themes, icons etc). This is in karmic.
