I tried all sorts of things - cleaned up /usr/lib/firefox, /usr/share/firefox, and removed ~/.mozilla and the reinstalled and it still occurs. I saw a similar bug(in centOS) where in the actual bug was in freetype shared lib, which was causing ff 1.5 to crash - not sure if it would be of any help
