How does this situation come about? linux-firmware postinst invokes
/usr/sbin/update-initramfs if it exists, i.e. initramfs-tools is
installed. This depends on initramfs-tools-core, which should supply the
missing file. However it happens, I don't think the issue lies in linux-
firmware.

It's likely you'll need to get support from Intel for this issue since
it is a firmware crash, but one thing you should check is that you have
the newest firmware available for you

I think you would be better off checking CONFIG_ACPI, this can be off in
the kernel config even when an architecture selects
CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_ACPI.

The disco kernel was updated for this, but it looks like you were
running an older kernel which did not receive the update. If you reboot
into the newest kernel for disco you should not encounter this issue
when upgrading.

I see there's one caveat, the autoinstall_all_kernels variable in
/etc/dkms/framework.conf can be set to build for all installed kernels,
not just the current and newest. But the default is to build only for
current and newest.
