Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: totem
Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 updated (9/10/2008)
Totem 2.24.2-0ubuntu1
When I play DVD with Totem I can see video but no audio at all.
Using VLC works fine.
Launching Totem from terminal and opening DVD gives this output:
*** Zero check failed in ifo_r
It's not an issue in Intrepid anymore but the bug still occurs in Hardy.
Thanks for let me know about upstream bug.

Fixed in Launchpad for Hardy, it will be effective in the next translation
package update.
It needs to be fixed upstream as well I think.

In fact there is no malformed string in language-selector italian translator.
I think it is a language-selector bug itself.
Launching it from terminal I got this error message:
(gnome-language-selector:8273): libglade-WARNING **: Error loading
image: Apertura del file «/usr/share/language-selecto
I suspect it is a more general problem, not just related to Italian
language.

If you already have complete language pack installed (e.g. upgrading
form Gutsy), trying to install additional language pack does absolutely
nothing, and so preventing you from installing anything.
