USB, the Format button has no effect when clicked on; not even an error
message. If there is an error, Ubuntu should let me know or not allow me

When emptying the trash (I used the "Empty Deleted Items" button at the
top of the file list in Nautilus) a dialog pops up with a progress bar
at 0% saying "Preparing". It stays at 0% for the duration of the empty
and then disappears when it's done instead of updating.
Steps
The only item in the trash was a source code folder of cmake. Nothing
more. It was no more than 300 MB, and I had plenty of room left on my
device. And yes, it is in the local partition.
