I don't really understand how a reboot *changed* the hostname. I'm
aware that karmic images will set the hostname to the value of found in
instance metadata on every boot, but I would have thought that would be
persistent (although annoyingly arbitrary).
On EBS instances, I could see this change
Marking this as 'medium' due to possibly being limited to a given device (IBM
N3300 filer). If it occurs more generically then this could be much more
severe.

Ok, I found the source of this problem. Its really a dupe of bug 341006
, or at very least, a fix to that bug that addressed the MAC addresses
used by UEC would make this problem go away.

Additionally, in the future, using 'ubuntu-bug eucalpytus-common' will

Can you please give more information on the expected behavior ? I'm not
able to understand what you're expecting.

I'm attaching a patch that I tested, which generally seems to work. ebs
attached volumes are then attached as virtio devices.

just for the record here, the doc referred to was:

I've been testing more, now with current lucid images, which have newer
cloud-init.
'ngrep port 8773' on the CLC shows:
T 10.55.55.8:39968 -> 10.55.55.2:8773 [AP]
GET /2009-04-04/meta-data/instance-id HTTP/1.1..Accept-Encoding: identity..
Host: 169.254.169.254..Connection: close..User
I noticed that above, 10.55.55.8 is the address of the node controller.
In cases where the correct response is found, that token is the public
IP address of the node. That would explain why the search for a
matching VM's IP would fail.
