What's the current behavior of APT these days? I notice we provide
Packages.bz2 for Intrepid Universe, but it's not obvious to me that
we're using it. Recompressing this with lzma shows another 10% savings

The Upgrade Manager said "435 Upgrades Available", so I clicked it. The
upgrade got hung up a couple of times, one of them wanting a root user
password for MySQL. then crashed.

Generally library backports are not allowed. For libclamav (and all of
clamav) we are rather more liberal, but the reverse dependencies need
testing. That's the point of the PPA.
It looks like avscan is unsalvageable, since upstream has vanished.

I too am experiencing this problem -- am not going to report versions

Unmarking fix released as the proposed kernel does not fix this issue.

rootdelay work around and ended up in busybox, just like before. I
typed exit immediately and it failed. After waiting some time, exit

Yea, my bug is a duplicate of this one for sure. So, I can confirm it

I installed Intrepid fresh onto this laptop (HP Pavilion dv9540us), and
the alert sounds don't play. Instead, whenever I make one of the rather
common mistakes that cause an alert sound (such as hitting backspace one
too many times),

system->preferences->sound->sounds under "alert sound" ?
If so it means something was generating the alert sound every 5 seconds.
That could be anything from a weirdly behaving program to a key stuck
down on the keyboard.

Chess may be the only 3D program you're running. Desktop effects has
never played well with other OpenGL apps running at the same time,
generating similar problems. Do you run 3D games in Wine by chance?

I started having these exact same symptoms only *after* I recently
upgraded to 8.10 on an AMD dual-core. On 8.04 on the same computer,
thunderbird did not habitually freeze. This is extremely annoying and

Nitto, thanks for your work with the git bisect. Are you able to use
the last good kernel (b764a15f679942a7bc9d4f9645299e1defcc5b43 in the
bisect log) without any major problems, like wakeup from suspend? Maybe
this could be packaged as a workaround kernel for those of us affected
by this bug unt
Verification fails for me. System still drops to busybox and after a wait
typing exit gets to a normal boot.
I also tried the updated kernel on my laptop and no obvious regressions.

+1 in intrepid. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 with Gnome 2.24.1 and Tomboy
version 0.12.0 and I have Tomboy crash everytime when I highlight the
word "Science & Technology Page" and then press the Link button. I get
the message "Tomboy Notes" has quit unexpectedly". This happens every
