I ran thunderbird from the terminal and noticed it did crash because of
a google calender I added in the lightning calender extension. I
deleted it and now the problem seems to be solved! Thanks for the tip
about the extensions...should have thought of that one.

I recently upgraded to intrepid and now have exactly the same problem.
Even though under administration>hardware it shows that the driver is
running, my webcam is not recognized in Skype, cheese, or camorama. My

I can confirm that v4.14 final works.
Also, I made an obvious blunder in the initial report: I had to disable
*Wayland* after upgrading to 17.10, not Mir. That must've been a
crossover from an alternate universe where Ubuntu went with Mir :)
